23 Gifting Ideas for the Holiday Season – Nov 23rd 2022

I’d like to bring some sparkle into your gift-giving season so I thought to myself, what a perfect time to share some of my favourite things. I like them all for different reasons, which I share below. I think you’ll find a place for them on your seasonal gifting list! Many are local businesses or creators. Lots of them are good for the planet, our bodies or our souls.

Here is the audio version just over 21 minutes if you prefer to listen.

On My Book Shelves…
What to put on your reading shelf or gift for the shelves of your love ones, young and old:

3 Positive Books for Kids:

What Do You Do with an Idea?
This book has wonderful illustrations and is inspiring for young and old alike. My brother gave it to me for my 50-something birthday and I even interviewed the author on my local radio show.
Written by Kobi Yamada & Illustrated by Mae Besom

What Do You Do With an Idea?

Patchwork
This book was also gifted to me, very recently. It appeals to my love of everyone’s inherent gifts and their value to the collective, and our potential to become whatever we choose.
Written by Matt de La Peña & Illustrated by Corinna Luyken

Patchwork

Oh, the Places You’ll Go
This is a go-to book for dealing with what ‘life’ throws at us. I read it to my young friend, over and over, when his father was dying of cancer – which was hard stuff to deal with for a nine year- old! Dr. Seuss was a sage and this was the last book her wrote before he died.

3 Inspiring Books for Adults – Supporting the Multi-dimensional Paradigm:
I love to support the writers in my local community so here are a few…

The Miracle Mindset – Stories of How to Change the Thinking in Your Life
An interactive book from folk in my community, initiated by Diane Lund and contributed to by a group of local women, who see miracles in their lives.

The Miracle Mindset

Many Blessings Will Come: Tales of Recovering Inner Commitments, Gifts, and Wisdom Through Hypnotherapy
I wrote a review for the book and it’s on Kemila’s website, so I’ll let that speak for itself.

Sandra is vegan herself and wrote this book in support of vegan small biz folk and entrepreneurs. Whether you’re vegan or not, the tips and strategies are invaluable.

My local bookstore
I love to support local bookstores. Pulp Fiction sells new and gently used books. They have a web site that is just basic, barely, but you can contact them by phone or email to ask for the book you want. They can usually get my request for me, if it’s available in North America, and most often at a 30%+ discount on the cover price.

Cards to Pull to Inspire Your Loved Ones

Danielle LaPorte’s Truth Bomb Cards – Box 1 & 2
I often pull one of these when I do my Ask Lucca Live and my Laser Beam sessions. I find them inspiring and irreverent. I return to them often and have given many of them away. The physical version is hard to come by now and Danielle isn’t selling them on her site any longer. You can get the app though. It’s just as inspiring and goes where you do on your mobile device.

Angel Cards for Inspiration
These are the original cards designed for the Findhorn-inspired ‘Game of Transformation’. They’re little cards that don’t even really need the guide that comes with them. Just pull an angel, look at the little picture and let your imagination and intuition take over.

Notebooks & Creating
For people on your list who think with a pen or pencil in their hand or love to create and record ‘stuff’.

Muji Notebooks
I searched for a looooong time to find unruled notebooks that were bound, lay flat when they were opened, had smooth paper, were eco-friendly and were affordable. These come five to a pack for a REALLY reasonable price. There are physical stores in major centres across Canada but you can also buy them online and have them shipped. Perfect gifts for the journal-lovers, record-keepers and the creatives in your life. Get them a pen or some crayons to go with it! Muji also has several other minimalist notebook options. Some are even lined. Moji Notebooks

Crayons
I love these because they’re natural and come in squares (almost). You can layer them, the colours are vibrant and they smell of bee’s wax. I first found out about these because Steiner Schools (Waldorf) use them. I’ve given lots of these away! The link below is to the Dilly Dally Kids store in East Vancouver. They sell responsible and creative toys that don’t numb your kids out. Not just for kids but for the kid in all of us.

Kitchen Gear

Spirtle/Spurtle
A spirtle is a very specific kitchen tool that I use all the time. It’s a wooden stick with a rounded end, for stirring the kinds of things that tend to stick to the bottom of the pot or clump to a stirring implement – oatmeal or other hot cereals, cream soups, stews, custard – although I don’t recommend using the same one for savoury and sweet. Maybe you’d like to buy your friend two! This wooden tool is made on a lathe. I also bought a wooden spatula from Scott and he sells tins of beeswax-oil mixture, as protection for the wooden implements, that smells divine.

Tea Steeper
This little gadget is wonderful for brewing a single cup of loose-leaf tea. It’s made of stainless steel mesh and floats in the mug, keeping the tea from cooling as it steeps. Once the tea is strong enough, you can flip the steeper over and it catches the drips.

Clothing & Adornment

Raincoat for West Coast winters
I’ve been through a lot of rainwear over the years, looking for a coat that meets my needs. I’ve found a great raincoat, from a local to me business, at a reasonable price. They make it in bright yellow so I can be seen easily on dark, rainy nights. It has a hood so the rain doesn’t go down my neck. It has zipped pockets, adjustable cuffs and comes down to my knees. I can also layer under it for colder winter days. Their kid’s gear is great too. I don’t have kids but maybe you do.

Camellia’s Beaded Adornment
I’ve been inspired by and worn Camellia’s creations for years. She posts them on her Facebook page as she creates them so you should follow her and watch for her goodies! I’ve even had her create necklaces for me that I specifically use for energetic clearing, protection and amplification when I’m working. Made with love and inspiration.

Up-cycling

Candle in a Teacup
Carly Giroux up-cycles beautiful teacups with saucers, into festive candle holders. Made with natural soy wax infused with healing stones + essential oils + magic, in recycled cups and jars. Perhaps you don’t drink your tea from fine china, with your pinky in the air, but this is another wonderful way to bring a cup of light, positive vibes and scent into the season.

Save the Planet & Our Bodies

Fresh produce fridge bags
Anahita Shahrvini started her business when her kids’ school announced that the kids could no longer bring their snacks and lunches to school in disposable plastic bags. She saw the sense in this in any case, so she set about finding a solution. It was successful and prompted her to branch out into bags to keep produce fresh in the fridge, plastic-free. I love mine, use them all the time and have gifted them. The link below is for the set of three sizes – a good deal. Browse the site and find all the other great stuff to help save us from plastic!

My fave lipsticks
Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE lipstick. However, there’s often lots of harmful ingredients in lipstick that go from our lips to our digestive system and our cells. Not good! Beautycounter has sworn to not use all those toxins in their cosmetics and body care products and to disclose every last ingredient they do use. They’re setting a high standard for the industry and their lipsticks are GOOD quality. Adina Neufeld is passionate about this cause and is one of the founding Canadian Beautycounter consultant. She’s located in North Vancouver and inspiring to work with.

Lip balm
On one of my regular trips up to Whitehorse in the Yukon, I discovered a little company called Aroma Borealis. I’ve purchased many things from them over the years but one of my staples is always their lip balm. I especially like that it’s oily and not waxy. They use all natural ingredients, including essential oils, and they mindfully source and harvest locally. If supporting Canadian businesses and using good quality ingredients matters to you, then check this out. You can order online. Fireweed is my fave but they have more options.

Edibles

Natural chocolates
Julie Beyer, the founder of Glow Chocolate, makes chocolates that are good for us. I can feel healthy while my taste buds are very happy. She says she makes chocolates that ‘transform low glycemic sweeteners such as green stevia, mesquite and lucuma into delicious “dessert” recipes so that you can enjoy delicious sweetness everyday and feel and look your best’. Yum!

Edible Magazine for foodies
Edible, Vancouver & Wine Country, is a print and online magazine for foodies. I get the local Vancouver one but there may be one where you are as well. I love that the articles help me to discover local food, growers, makers and tasters. You can get or give a subscription or you can go the free route and pick one up in your local grocery store 6 times a year. I never miss an issue. Once a year they also include a pull-out of the Fraser Valley Self-Guided Farm Tour. Edible Magazine
